Call for Demos

In order to provide a forum for discussion and personal interaction between presenters and participants, and for promoting the sharing of experimental experience in the field of ICT-supported HealthCare and assisted living, ACM Healthnet 2007 is planning to host a demonstration session.

ACM HealthNet07 is the 1st International Workshop on Systems and Networking Support for Healthcare and Assisted Living Environments. It is co-located with ACM MobiSys 2007.

The specific focus of ACM HealthNet is about understanding what it takes to provide effective systems and communication support for healthcare and assisted living environments. Although the systems and networking communities are already providing solutions that meet the requirements of applications and users in their own areas, cross-area interaction is sought after for designing systems and communication solutions for healthcare and assisted living environments. In particular, input from experts in HCI, middleware, security, privacy and social networking is required to provide a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and barriers that prevent the development and testing of application for healthcare related environments.

The following is a non-exhaustive list of topics that are suitable for ACM HealthNet 2007 demos:

  • Service and application deployment
  • Implementation on network protocols, security and privacy schemes
  • Implementation of architectures for healthcare and assisted living
  • Implementation of middleware for heterogeneous networks
  • Implementation and test of novel HCI targeted to this application domain
  • Test-beds and simulations environments

An extended abstract describing the contributions of the demo or available preliminary results should be submitted to the demo chair and to the workshop co-chairs. Abstracts will be evaluated mainly based on their potential to stimulate discussion, exchange of ideas, and foster collaborations. The authors of selected demos will be invited to present their ideas at the main workshop and an extended abstract of the demo will be published in the ACM digital library.

Submissions should not be more than three pages in length (ACM conference format, 2-column, letter size, 10pt fonts or higher). The abstract should also include space and equipment requirements. The document should contain the authors' names, affiliations, and contact information and the corresponding author should be clearly identified. Submission will be accepted until May 13th 2007, 12 pm EDT. A single PDF file should be sent to the ACM HealthNet TPC co-chairs Robin Kravets and Chiara Petrioli. The subject of the e-mail should be "HealthNet07 demo submission." The submission file should be the last name of the first author ".pdf."

  • Acceptance notification: May 15, 2007
  • Final abstract due on: May 18, 2007
